Considered a developmental disorder as it usually initiates symptoms at early years (up to 2 years).

It's also called as a spectrum disorder as there's a wide variation in the type and severity of symptoms, and it is indiscriminate of race, ethnicity and economic groups.

Although ASD can be a lifelong disorder, treatment and services can drastically help improve to level of functionality.

MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS OR BEHAVIOURS

  • Making little or inconsistent eye contact
  • Inconsistent attention to people
  • Facial expressions that don't match the situation
  • Repeating words/phrases
  • Being way more or less sensitive than usual to sound and light

Sometimes ASD may also have positive effects that are more enhanced than normal. Some would include:

  • Being able to learn things in detail and retain information for very long periods of time
  • Excellent visual and auditory learners
  • Outstanding at math, science, music, or art
