Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic neurological condition that affects the central nervous system, mainly the brain and spinal cord. It develops when the immune system attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers, disrupting communication between the brain and the rest of the body. Management often requires a multidisciplinary approach involving medication, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and counseling. There are various classifications of MS, including Relapsing-Remitting, Secondary Progressive, and Primary Progressive types, though severity and symptoms may differ widely from person to person. It must however be noted that the role of specialists is very important, as they support individuals in addressing fatigue, vision problems, muscle weakness, and coordination issues, enabling them to maintain independence and quality of life. For a person to benefit from MS management, he or she must be motivated to adhere to treatment, adapt to lifestyle changes, and make effective use of prescribed aids.
